The goal of the course is to thoroughly understand D-Day. This means examining it from a variety of perspectives and looking at each with a critical eye. We want learners, as fully as possible, to make sense of what happened and its significance.

Topics Include:

  • D-Day policy and strategy
  • Operational art
  • Grand tactics as well as small-unit tactics
  • The memory and meaning of WWII

MEET YOUR INSTRUCTOR

David Ulbrich, PhD

Dr. David Ulbrich is currently an associate professor and director of the MA programs in History and in Military History at Norwich University. He is an award-winning author, teacher, and consultant. Among Ulbrich’s recent publications are the co-authored books Ways of War and Race and Gender in Modern Western Warfare. Ulbrich has appeared on the television documentary “Echoes of War: Stories from the Big Red One” and will be featured in the documentary “Jungle Warfare” which is completing production.
