PM330 - Business Essentials for PMs

Project Management is always a balancing act, across multiple axes. Juggling the goals of the project against the people impacted, the budget allocated, and the inevitable deadlines can be intimidating. As a result, project management is part science and part art.

In this short course, we’ll explore some of the basic business concepts that may impact a project during its lifecycle. Concepts include developing strategy, assessing risk, operating within existing structures, and communicating within organizational contexts and cultures.

While this course isn’t intended to fully prepare you to sit for the Project Management Professional certification, it will introduce many of the concepts that appear on that exam. More importantly, we hope you will be better prepared to lead or participate as a stakeholder in projects at your organization.

This course covers the business skills that project managers need to succeed. Among other topics, we cover risk, strategy, managing finances, international culture and etiquette, and how to create measurable and meaningful KPIs to demonstrate your project’s effectiveness. You’ll also get opportunities to do hands-on work with relevant tools and formulas.
